ART & ACTION: My Concrete Mattress

This Sunday night, February 20, at 7:30pm Stretch will host our very first ART & ACTION night!

Stretch ART & ACTION events will be quarterly opportunities for us to engage a variety of artistic expressions to create awareness and action around a particular cause.

For our first ART & ACTION event we will be featuring a special screening of My Concrete Mattress.  Filmed in downtown Atlanta, My Concrete Mattress is a documentary that captures and portrays the lives of four homeless people: John, Deborah, Dwight and Anthron.  The goal of the film is to move beyond the stereotypes of homelessness by displaying the true stories of these people, and educate viewers of lives affected by poverty.

We will be joined by Jonathan Goode from Unthinkable, the creators of My Concrete Mattress.  Jonathan is currently on the Unthinkable American Tour, screening My Concrete Mattress across the country. He will share about the heart of the film, it’s origin and what his organization hopes to accomplish with it.

We will also be joined by Ryan Bult, Cross Point’s Mission Pastor, as well as representatives from some of Stretch’s regular service project partners, including Safe Haven Family Shelter, The Bridge Ministry, Room In The Inn and Nashville Rescue Mission, who will each briefly share the vision of their respective organizations as well as existing volunteer opportunities for people looking serve Nashville’s homeless community. Each of these organizations serves Nashville’s homeless community in a unique way, so you’ll be able to hear about a wide variety of service opportunities immediately available to you.

We’re also extending an invitation to other Cross Point Community Groups and group leaders who are looking for service opportunities for their groups to join us for this event.
